King Beats Life in College Women's Wrestling Top-5 Opener
No. 5 King went on the road and beat No. 4 Life 27-12. Every bout, every result.

Most teams open the season against somebody they're supposed to beat.
King and Life opened against each other.
NCAA No. 5 King went into Marietta, Georgia, on Sunday and beat NAIA No. 4 Life 27-12. Life is a three-time defending NAIA National Duals champ, on its own mat. That's not a warm-up.
How King won it
King won 8 of 10. Life's two wins came early, then King took every bout from 131 up.
Final: King 27, Life 12
- 103: Amelia Murphy (King) def. Alyssa Quezaire (Life), decision 4-0
- 110: Diana Gonzalez (Life) def. Kristina Kent (King), decision 8-4
- 117: Jada Pichardo (King) def. Devlynn Albrecht (Life), decision 6-3
- 124: Ariana Martinez (Life) def. Ruby Julien-Newsom (King), decision 9-7
- 131: Virginia Foard (King) def. Janida Garcia (Life), major decision 9-1
- 138: Isis France (King) def. Netavia Wickson (Life), decision 14-10
- 145: Zoey Lints (King) def. Christina Jaen (Life), decision 13-8
- 160: Stella Steigler (King) def. Faith Bane (Life), tech fall 11-0 (2:54)
- 180: Kathryn Hingano (King) def. Mackenzie Schultz (Life), decision 9-4
- 207: Isabella Lorenzana (King) def. Madeline Welch (Life), decision 8-6
No pins. One tech fall: Steigler, who took third at nationals last season and needed under three minutes to open this one.
King coach Bret Fry called Life a "tough, well-coached program" and said several matches could have gone either way. Fair. The score looks comfortable, but this was a real dual.
Freshmen who showed up
Two King freshmen made their college debut on the road against a top-5 team. Both won.
Virginia Foard (131). A 9-1 major decision over Janida Garcia. The dual was tied at two bouts apiece when she stepped on the mat. King never lost again.
Isabella Lorenzana (207). She closed it out at heavyweight with an 8-6 decision over Madeline Welch. It was the tightest King win of the day, and the rookie held on.
Up next
King heads to the Adrian Duals on Saturday, November 14.
