What we collect, how we use it, and how the newsletter works.

The Martial Articles ("TMA," "we," "us") explains here what information we collect when you use themartialarticles.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. Short version: we collect what we need to run the site, we don't sell your data, and you can get out anytime.
What we collect
Information you give us:
- Membership: your name, email address and password when you create a free account.
- Newsletter: your email address when you subscribe.
- Location: your ZIP code or city, if you give it to us, so we can show events near you.
- Event submissions: event details you send us, like name, location, time and cost, plus your contact info so we can follow up.
- Contest nominations: names, photos and descriptions you submit, along with the media release you agree to.
- Advertising: your name, business name, email, ad creative and click-through link when you book an ad.
- Purchases: your name, shipping address and email when you buy merch or ad space.
- Comments and messages: anything you post in comments or send us by email.
Information collected automatically:
- Usage data: pages you visit, how you got here, your browser and device type, and your general location based on your IP address.
- Cookies: small files that keep you logged in, remember your preferences and help us understand how the site is used. See "Cookies" below.
Payment information: We never see or store your full card number. Payments are processed by Wix, which handles your card details under its own privacy policy.

- To process and ship orders, and to handle ad bookings

Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal information. Ever.
We share it only with the companies that help us run the site, and only what they need to do their job:
- Wix, which hosts our site, member accounts, forms and store, sends our newsletter and processes payments
- Printful, which prints and ships merch orders (your name and shipping address)
- Analytics tools, like Wix's built-in analytics, which help us understand site traffic
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or someone's safety, or if TMA is ever sold or merged, in which case this policy would still apply to your information.
What's public: Comments you post, event listings you submit, and approved contest nominations (name, photo and description) appear on the site for others to see. Please don't include anything you want kept private.
The newsletter
When you create a free account or subscribe, you'll get The Martial Articles newsletter: news, results, events and the occasional promotion from us or our sponsors.
- How you join: by checking the newsletter box when you sign up for an account, or by subscribing directly. The box is checked by default, so uncheck it if you don't want emails.
- How often: about weekly.
- Sponsored content: some emails may include ads or sponsored messages, and they'll be labeled. We never give your email address to sponsors.
- How to leave: click "unsubscribe" at the bottom of any email, or email us at info@themartialarticles.com. We'll process it within 10 business days. Unsubscribing from the newsletter doesn't delete your account, and you'll still get account emails like password resets and order receipts.
Cookies
We and our providers use cookies and similar tools to keep you logged in, remember your settings, measure traffic and see which articles people read. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but some parts of the site, like logging in, may not work without them.
Kids
We cover youth wrestling and jiu-jitsu, but the site isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. Member accounts, contest entries and ad bookings are for adults 18 and older. If you think a child under 13 has given us information, email info@themartialarticles.com and we'll delete it.
Photos of youth athletes published on TMA are used with permission from a parent, guardian, school or event organizer. If you're a parent and want a photo of your child removed, email us and we'll take it down.
Your choices and rights
You can always:
- See the personal information we have about you
- Fix anything that's wrong
- Delete your account and personal information
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails
To do any of these, email info@themartialarticles.com. We'll verify it's you and respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, such as California or the EU, you may have additional rights under local law, and we'll honor them.
How long we keep it
We keep your information as long as your account is active or as long as we need it for the reasons above. Order and payment records may be kept longer for tax and legal reasons. When we no longer need it, we delete it.
Security
We use reputable providers and reasonable safeguards to protect your information. No website is 100% secure, so please use a strong, unique password for your account.
Links to other sites
Articles and ads link to other websites. We're not responsible for their privacy practices, so check their policies before sharing information with them.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we'll update the date at the top and let members know by email or a notice on the site.
