Amit Elor Out of 2026 Worlds

Olympic champion Amit Elor will miss the 2026 Senior World Championships while she recovers from pericarditis, an inflammation of the tissue around the heart.

Elor shared the news on social media. She had chest pain and elevated troponin, a marker of heart muscle stress, in August, then fevers into September. She said everything points to a viral illness, and that she ran out of time to get even minimal preparation for Worlds.

The good news: she says she's back training and getting stronger every day. No return date has been announced.

Who steps in at 72 kg

Precious Wieser takes the U.S. spot at 72 kg. She's ranked No. 3 on the national team and got the call because Elor and No. 2 Alexandra Glaude were both unavailable.

Wieser is the reigning Pan American champion. This year she also took silver at the Poland Open and made the finals at the U.S. Open and the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament. Her only previous age-group Worlds appearance was eighth place at the 2019 U23 Worlds.

Elor, who won Olympic gold in Paris at 20 to become the youngest American Olympic wrestling champion, put it simply: the chance to compete will come again.
